LCA-X1 Landing Craft, 1962. Built by FMC for the Navy's Bureau of Ships, it is known as Landing Craft, Assault, (LCA) X1. There was one access ramp at each end. It used 2 International Harvester Solar TS1000S-14 gas turbines but only one propelled the vehicle when on land. Tracks came from those of M60 Medium Tank. Load capacity was 30 T or 250 equipped soldiers. It travelled at 32 km/h, climb slope 60% and 30% traverse slope. Light Cargo Carrier was built in 1949 by Continental Aviation and Engineering for the Bureau of Ships. Torsilastic suspension and a 475 hp Ford were used. Mass empty : 12 metric ton. Speed : 40 km/h on land and 13 km/h in water. It was unstable in water. LVTU-X2 landing craft vehicle prototype built in 1951 by Pacific Car and Foundry for the Navy. Very big, it was able to carry vehicles across lakes, rivers and from ship to shore. It could climb slopes of 60% and was equipped with two double tracks with vanes to help the two propellers of the vehicle in water. Nick named "Goliath", its total mass was about 134 metric tons and empty 80 tons. Two 500 hp Continental engines were able to achieve 11 km/h in water and 21 km/h on land. LVH-X1 amphibious cargo carrier built by Balwin-Lima-Hamilton in 1951 and reworked by Jered Industries for the Bureau of Ships. The rear ramp was very long, activated by hydraulic cylinders and torsion bars. Total mass was 24,5 metric ton and speed 48 km/h despite its size. Enfrac, (Engin d'aide au franchissement) crossing assistance vehicle, 1971, prototype. Tests were conducted in 1968 at ETAS, Angers, to help designing a vehicle for assistance crossing. In 1971, A prototype with AMX30 tracks was built. Very compact, 4 tooth self-hauling arm was folded between the 2 cabs and clamshell grader was at the rear. Named today : Engineer vehicle.
