Scott motorized sleigh. Three of these were used by Captain Scott during his South Pole Expedition in 1910. Designed by Wolseley Motor Company, they were not very reliable. There were no any steering gear, ropes were to be attached to the front of the frame for guiding the tractor when necessary. It was possible because of low speed : 3 km/h. After WWII, Consolidated Industries, Dover, Delaware, sold enhanced Weasels with gas or diesel engines, winches, windlasses and spare parts. Scale model of space link tracks and driven obstacle tracks for tests. 1 - The space link tracks were invented by Bekker. As explained in the book of F. Crismon, US Military Tracked Vehicles, 'a single grouser and plate, if well loaded caused a ground failure, compaction which extended deeply in the soil. Since the plate/grouser was pushing to the rear, the ground failure extended some distance behind the plates, and it was determined if the next plate should not be placed to closely behind the first since that soil was already loaded. The overall goal was to eliminate the phenomena called 'grip failure', where the soil fails laterally along a line tangent to the tips of the grousers. The vehicle 'Ground Hog', built in 1949 was tested at Aberdeen Proving Ground.  2 - The driven raised obstacle tracks were rather new.
