Coupled M 113 were tested between 1972 and 1982 by U. S. Army Materiel Command and Keweenaw Research Center. An electro-hydraulic system allow articulation in yaw, pitch and roll between two M 113 to enhance mobility, particularly crossing of vertical obstacles and trenches. Speed in water was increased and in soft terrains, steering did not slow down or stop the vehicle.
